Elon Musk says the new Twitter Blue, which lets you pay $7.99 per month for a blue verification check mark next to your name, is scheduled to launch on November 29th. In a tweet, he said he would be “punting” the relaunch to this date “to make sure that it is rock solid.”
It’s safe to say that the original launch of Blue didn’t go super smoothly. Twitter first started rolling it out on iOS earlier this month but pulled signups a few days later after a wave of fake verified accounts popped up on the platform.
Both of the fake Nintendo accounts impersonated the company, which led to mayhem because the real company was being impersonated and ridiculed. The second account even impersonated a pharmaceutical company and posted an outlandish tweet that said it was now free.
A disappointing Twitter moment came when many of its valuable ads were suspended because of the recent chaos. One of the world’s largest advertising companies, Omnicom Media Group, has even paused its ads.
If your Twitter name gets changed, you’ll go back to the verification page that asks you for a screenshot of your blue check mark. But after laying off employees, we’re not entirely sure anyone will be left to do those verifications.
